RECs
What is a REC?
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are tradable certificates with true monetary value. Under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 (also known as the RET scheme), RECs are created when your solar is installed.
1 REC = 1 megawatt hour of electricity generated by your solar PV power system
The price of RECs changes according to market conditions, just as the stock market fluctuates, so does the market for RECs. FreeSolar is a registered RECs agent. When we install your solar system, we will ask you to sign a “REC Assignment Form.” This assigns your RECs to FreeSolar in return for an up-front discount on your solar system. This is an easy and convenient way to gain value from your RECs. This up-front discount has already been accounted for in the final advertised cost of your solar system.
The level of subsidy will depend on a number of factors, including the location (also known as the zone) of the solar PV system, the size of the system and the price of RECs at the time the system was installed.
