We purchase approved solar panels and inverters in bulk and then pass the savings on to you. By doing this, we can completely offset the cost of the system by using federal government rebates ($8000) and RECS. All of the installations are pre-approved by the government and the rights to the rebates and RECS are signed over to Free Solar by the customer. The customer pays only a $1499 deposit, the house is inspected and the preapproval paperwork is completed. If the government approves the house, we then schedule the installation and install the system. If the government rejects the application, we refund in full. After the installation has occurred it takes about 5 weeks for Free Solar to be reimbursed by the government, the customers $1499 deposit is then refunded in full.

The $1499 deposit can also be used to fund other installations. For example, our 400 litre solar hot water systems fully installed (after rebates) are $1499. Free Solar Club members receive a 25% discount on this and pay only $1125.  

Once the solar electricity system is installed, it will start producing power that is fed into the mains electricity grid via the house. Your electricity company pays you at a rate of $0.44 per kWh of excess solar power that is produced and fed into the grid at any instant in time. This is known as the Grid Feed Tariff and has now been legislated in parliament in Queensland. The electricity companies are legally bound to purchase solar power from you at the rate of $0.44 per kWh, even though they only charge you around $0.16 per kWh for the power you use from the grid. Our 1kW system produces approximately 5kWh (averaged over 12 months) per day.

This income is paid directly to you (the householder) as a monthly credit on your electricity account. After 12 months, if you have more credits than debits you will receive a cheque from your electricy supplier for the balance.

Anna Bligh, the Premier of Queensland has indicated that a typical family household should save about 25% on the average power bill. For single person households (especially pensioners), the savings are likely to be much higher.
